Alaska Halibut Fishing
All Alaska lodges look good on the Internet, but take a close look at what they offer. What costs extra or is not offered at other lodge and we include at no charge in our package trips. We prefer to keep our guest list small 6-8, to allow us the best opportuntiy to exceed expectations.
For the saltwater angler, we offer a fishery that is second to none among Alaska's offshore waters. Forget the big harbors with their massive charter fleets, strong diesel fumes and noisy boats. We focus on remote waters not fished-out like areas near large coastal cities. During salmon season, it's common to have several rods with fish on at once.
Kodiak Island saltwater is Alaska's best fishing for another reason. While on the water, you can take in many aspects of Nature while waiting for a bite. Expect to marvel in the natural beauty as we troll along spectacular coatline and watch the salmon and whales chase after baitfish. For here you can sample the richness of the sea, and photograph an abundance of marine life that you have never seen before.
There's no need to worry about casting skills, or drifting your fly or lure properly. You can jig a bit for salmon or halibut, or simply allow the downriggers to do the work as you delight in watching football shaped puffins dive for baitfish. They pop to the surface with their stomachs so full that they bounce along the water, unable to get airborne.
Bear, deer, and fox sightings are common along our shorelines, and bald eagles make spectacular aerial dives, snatching up surface-schooling herring without getting their legs wet. You'll forget about fishing--at least temporarily--when you see humpbackand killer whales feeding in perfect harmony with each other.
